The State of Maryland permits recovery for wrongful death of a person. See, Section 3-901, et. seq., of the Courts and Judicial Proceedings Article of the Annotated Code of Maryland .
The primary beneficiaries in a wrongful death case are the spouse, parent and child of the deceased.
See, Section 3-904 (a). If there are no primary beneficiaries, the claim may be brought by any person related to the deceased by blood or by marriage who was substantially dependent upon the deceased.

Damages awarded are not restricted to economic loss and may include damages for mental anguish, emotional pain and suffering, loss of society, companionship, comfort, protection, marital care, parental care, filial care, attention, advice, counsel, training, guidance, or education ONLY if the deceased is a : (a) spouse; (b) child ; or (c) parent. See, Section 3-904.
An action for wrongful death must be filed within three (30 years of the date of death.
