MARYLAND PERSONAL INJURY TIPS - A PRIMER : HOWARD & MONTGOMERY COUNTIES (410-720-6129)

www.charlesjeromeware.com         "Here to make a difference."

If you or a loved on have been injured in an accident, call us for a free initial consultation at the Law Offices of Charles Jerome Ware, LLC : (410) 720-6129  or  (410) 730-5016. We can help you.

[The following is for informational purposes only, and not intended as legal advice.]

1. For several good reasons, personal injury is an area of the law that does not lend itself well to self-representation. Get a personal injury lawyer when you are injured in an accident.
2. There are many different laws that cover the area of personal injury, including vehicle accidents, slip-and-falls, medical malpractice, product liability, etc. All have their own rules, laws and procedures to follow when prosecuting claims. Very thorough research is required to determine whether you can win a personal injury case.
3. There are no pre-printed, self-help forms to fill out and follow when pursuing a personal injury case.
4. Keep good and complete records regarding your accident as well as your injuries --- including pictures, videos, etc.
5. Be aware of your relevant statute of limitations (time limit to file your claim), and contact a lawyer as immediately as possible after your accident. If you miss the time limit, you lose the right to pursue your claim. *
6. Get proper medical treatment expeditiously. Do not delay. Keep good medical and other health-related records.

* 7. The "statute of limitations" that applies to most personal injury cases ( or "torts") in Maryland is Maryland Courts & Judicial Proceedings, Section 5-101, which provides that " a civil action at law shall be filed within three years from the date it "accrues" unless another provision of the Code provides a different period of time within which an action shall be commenced." However, actions for assault, libel, or slander must be filed within one year of the date when they accrue, according to Maryland Courts & Judicial Proceedings, Section 5-105.
