As observers, we were among several thousand curiosity-seekers, high-rollers and regular gambling-types who attended the "Maryland Live" casino opening at Arundel Mills shopping center in Anne Arundel County, Maryland last evening (Wednesday, June 6th, 2012).
Among the huge crowd in attendance at the casino's grand opening were dozens of legislators and other elected officials, numerous and various dignitaries, and of course the media; "all-in" to celebrate and participate in the facility's new slots, electronic table games, new eateries, and other entertainment.
Many at the event went home in frustration because they could not get in because of the huge crowds in attendance. The capacity for the new "Maryland Live" casino is 15,000 people.
No more trips to Atlantic City, New Jersey or Dover, Delaware said many in attendance.
The "Maryland Live" casino sits on 12 acres, will eventually house more than 4,700 slot machines, utilized 160,000 square feet for gaming, and is, right now, one of the largest casinos in the United States.
